You finally picked your laminate, cleared a weekend on the calendar, and now you’re wondering: how long is your home actually going to feel like a job site? We get this question all the time in our Moorestown showroom, especially from busy families trying to plan around work, kids, and pets.
Let’s walk through a realistic laminate installation timeline so you know what to expect from start to finish.
Step 1: Planning, Measuring, and Product Arrival (A Few Days to a Couple of Weeks)
Before anyone shows up with tools, we need to measure your space, check the subfloor, and talk through details like transitions, trim, and stair noses. That visit usually takes under an hour, but it sets the pace for everything else.
Once you’ve picked your style from our laminate flooring options, we order the material and schedule your installation. Depending on stock and delivery, this part usually takes about 3–10 days. Special-order colors or matching trims can push it a bit longer, but we’ll give you a clear window up front.
If you’d like a deeper dive into how laminate is built and why that matters for timing and durability, our laminate flooring guide is a helpful read.
Step 2: Acclimation and Prep (1–2 Days)
In South Jersey’s humid summers and dry winters, letting flooring adjust to your home’s temperature and humidity is important, even for modern laminates. Many products need at least 24 hours in the space before installation; some ask for up to 48. We’ll tell you exactly what your chosen line requires.
While the planks are acclimating, you’ll want to:
- Clear small items and breakables from the rooms and hallways we’ll be working in.
If you’d rather not wrestle with furniture or old flooring, we can build that into the project. Our flooring installation and services include removal of existing floors, subfloor repairs, and moving larger pieces when needed, which helps keep the actual install days running smoothly.
Step 3: Installation by Square Footage (Usually 1–3 Days)
This is the part everyone really wants to know: how many days will crews be in your home? It depends mainly on square footage, layout, and how much prep is needed.
Here’s a realistic range for professional laminate installation in a typical South Jersey home:
- Up to 300 sq. ft. (one room): Often done in a single day, including underlayment and trim touch‑ups.
- 300–700 sq. ft. (living room + hallway, or first floor minus kitchen): Plan on 1–2 days.
- 700–1,200+ sq. ft. (multiple rooms or full main level): More like 2–3 days, especially if we’re working around lots of doorways, built‑ins, or stairs.
Complex layouts, older homes in places like Haddonfield with wavy subfloors, or projects that involve tearing out tile or thick glued-down carpet can extend that timeframe. On the flip side, newer construction with open floor plans in areas like Mount Laurel usually installs faster because there are fewer tight cuts and transitions.
If you’re still deciding on style, it can help to browse wood-look laminate to see how different plank sizes and colors might look across larger spaces.
Step 4: Finishing Touches and Cleanup (Same Day or Next Morning)
Once the planks are in, we handle the details:
- Installing new baseboards or shoe molding (if part of the project)
- Reinstalling doors that were removed
- Adding transitions between rooms or where laminate meets tile or carpet
- Final cleanup and walkthrough with you
Most of this happens on the last installation day, but if we’re doing extra trim work or multiple staircases, we might need a brief return visit. You can usually walk on your new laminate right away; we just suggest giving any fresh paint or caulk a bit of time to set before heavy cleaning.
If you’d like to see how finished projects look at this stage, our project gallery shows real homes we’ve worked in across South Jersey.
Every home is different, but the big picture is this: from final selection to cleanup, most laminate projects we handle wrap up in about one to two weeks on the calendar, with 1–3 actual install days inside your home. If you’re trying to fit a project in before a move-in date or family visit, we’ll help you plan realistic dates and work around your schedule.
If you’re ready to talk through timing for your own space, the Rodrigues brothers and our team are happy to take a look at your rooms and give you a clear plan. You can request a free estimate, and we’ll map out the timeline, costs, and details with you step by step.
